The Gordon Kimball Store in Ouray,
Colorado, was built on the city's Main Street no later than the very
early 1880's. It served the area's miners well as an outfitter
source, reportedly doing more than $200,000 in sales
annually. The building was selected because of its small
footprint (6 x 8.5-inches in O; 4.5 x 7-inches in S; 3.4 x 4.75-inches
in HO), great
graphics, and the large front
windows that will showcase any interior details you care to add.
Because the roof does not overhang the sidewalls, the building can be
located tightly against any neighboring structures -- a common practice
in the early days of western towns.

Another detail worthy of notice is the overhanging sign atop the false
front. The sign is a decal, as is the large graphic on the front
of the building. We include our peel-and-stick, textured, scale
shake shingles in the kit. The chimney is a resin casting,
appropriately scaled, made from our master.
The building is designed so the roof is removable. An interior
can be added at any time. Shelving is included below each of the
front windows, as well as two intermediate shelves on each side of the
front doors. The interior floor is scribed for a more realistic
effect.

The O-and S-scale kits are built around an
inner plywood core -- no additional interior bracing is needed.
Gordon Kimball's, HO-Scale
As with all our kits, door knobs and lock
plates are included. The design makes extensive use of slots,
tabs, and peel-and-stick materials. The spiral
bound, S-scale instruction manual is 34-pages long and contains 31
photos of the assembly,
painting and finishing techniques, useful tools, and suggestions as to
what
adhesives to use. The HO manual is 32-pages long with 29
photos. The O manual is 34-pages with 28 photos. And, yes,
the 5 detail casting shown in the photos are
included in each kit. All the kits contain quality materials...no
cardboard, no plastic windows!
